The customer

This was a commercial installation for a large waterside pub/restaurant and wedding venue in Staffordshire.

The challenge

The Waterfront was seeking an extensive solar PV installation that would deliver significant cost-savings.

As the venue was powered by 100% electricity, this resulted in huge energy use, and high annual bills.

The delivery target was therefore the maximum possible PV output.

In addition, as the venue was aiming to reopen its doors after the spring 2021 Covid 19 lockdown, Kembla had a tight delivery deadline.

What we did

We recommended and installed a 40.5kw PV system. This comprised of 90 x 450w Longi Monocrystalline panels on Rensuol mounting, along with a SolarEdge 33,300W Three Phase inverter.

This included a DC Safety Unit, SPD II and a Rapid Shutdown Device.

In addition, 45 x P950 SolarEdge power optimisers and a SolarEdge Modbus meter was added, to enable power import and export monitoring.

The system is now delivering an estimated 35.89MWH of output each year and offsetting 10.09 tonnes of carbon. This delivers the equivalent of 463 trees planted each year.

What they said

Site manager Steve said:

“Our focus was very much on achieving long-term cost-savings and also keeping up the aesthetics of the exterior of the pub.

We certainly gave the Kembla team a challenge as, from order to switch-on, we could only give them a three-week window.

Kembla successfully gained District Network Operator approval (to enable us to connect to the grid and export) and they completed the commissioning and the installation within the timescale.

We are very pleased to be taking another step forward to making the site more sustainable, and we are very happy to recommend Kembla.”
