2030 petrol and diesel ban - is your business ready for electric vehicles?

A key concern for all commercial organisations is keeping costs down, whilst maximising profit.

Businesses are increasingly concerned about their carbon footprint and how the work they do, impacts the environment.

In addition, following the Government’s recent announcement that from 2030, the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned in the UK (that’s just a decade away!), the urgency for commercial businesses to embrace electric vehicles has seriously increased.

Here we look at the latest in electrics, the business benefits they can bring, and how to get your green journey started.

So, what’s the latest in the world of electric vehicles?

As more and more organisations recognise the business and the green benefits, there is a growing demand for electric commercial vehicles.

They are cheaper to run and better for the environment, but did you also know that company tax is 0% for an electric car or van?

What’s more, as drive range and the availability of charge points increase, this makes them a strong option for company fleets and delivery vehicles.

We are seeing more and more commercial electric vehicles on our roads and according to a 2020 article in The Guardian, there is now a huge move to embrace this within UK logistics.

In addition, more and more manufacturers are launching fresh electric vehicle ranges. A recent example is the new line-up of electric commercial vans from VW.

Why should you make the switch?

When it comes to adopting electric vehicles, cost-saving is key. Some electric vehicles can run for 100 miles at a cost of just £2-4. And if you have them installed, you can charge your electric vehicles from your solar roof panels.
Commercial and domestic customers can also take advantage of the OLEV grant. This can give you up to £350 back for each electrical charging socket.

You can find out more about the OLEV fund and how to apply here.
